WORDS ABOUT FUTURE

Being fascinated with typography and the art of calligraphy, Rengin Saltik has worked several series of paintings using lettering and calligraphy.

The works of her series titled “Words About Future” are inspired by the East Asian ancient and modern avant guard calligraphy which can be considered standing somewhere between graffiti, calligraphy and abstract expressionism. The works depict quotations from the contemporary writers and philosophers who pondered deeply about the future of humanity and raised questions on the ever-changing nature of our existence on this planet. These quotations on the future of mankind are chosen from Max Tegmark’s “Life 3.0” and Yuval Noah Harari’s “Homo Deus”; the two exceptional authors of brilliant minds.

The expressive inscriptions on large canvases are painted like old manuscripts or scribbles, in austere or occasionally vivid colors, by gestural brushstrokes and drippings of thick paint on layers of several underlying colors and texture.

The series consists of 23 paintings.
